Tours

Cedar Creek Falls

Cedar Creek falls is about 30 minutes drive from Airlie Beach.

Cedar Creek Falls is a seasonal attraction and flows in the wet season from November through to about May, depending of course on the length of the wet season! The falls may become inaccessible due to a flooded creek crossing, so tours may be cancelled or suspended.

During our rainy season the falls play host to a tranquil swimming hole and due to a lack of telephone and internet service it really allows you to escape! One or two hours is usually the limit before the kids start up!

Duration: 1 hour at the falls. Departs @10:00, return ~12:00

Conditions: A minimum of four adults is needed to run the tour. If fewer than four adults are attending the four adult charge is pending.

Price: Adults $60, kids under sixteen years, $30

Shute Harbour to Proserpine

Take a good look around Airlie Beach, Shute Harbour and Proserpine with an experienced local who knows all the spots!

We’ll take off from Airlie Beach and head down to Shute Harbour and take some photos from Lion’s Lookout where you can see Hamilton Island and many others! You can also take a look at the new ferry terminal! Did you know that Shute Harbour used to be the second busiest in Australia (after Circular Quay)? Cyclone Debbie came through in March of 2017 and finally wiped out a derelict and abandoned terminal. The project was officially opened in early 2022!

From there we’ll pay a visit to Cedar Creek Falls where you can take a half hour dip. It might be cool at first, but you’ll get used to it!

After we’ve dried off, it’s off to Proserpine for a spot of lunch (not included in the price) at Whitsunday Gold Coffee where you can take a look at over 100 species of birds and other animals!

After lunch we’ll go into Proserpine where you can exercise your credit card muscles at Colour Me Crazy, a local must see! It’s full of fun gift ideas and home-wares.

Finally, as we head back into Airlie Beach we can wet our whistles (again!) at Northerlies Beach Bar and Grill! Phew! Tired yet? OK, I’ll take you home now!!

Duration: departs Airlie Beach at 0900 and returns about 1630.

Price: adults $120, children under 16, $60.

Conditions: minimum of four adults. If fewer than four adults are travelling, the four adult price is due. Under flooding conditions, Cedar Creek Falls may be inaccessible and therefore removed from the itinerary.

The Hysterical, Historical Pub Tour

Whether we start in Airlie Beach or Mackay, this trip is a blast!

Departing Airlie Beach at 1000, our first venue is the charming Metropolitan Hotel in Proserpine where you can be freaked put by the one way mirror in the men’s urinal! Access is via the “Prosvegas” gaming room! Boys only! We’ll have half an hour to have a heart starter!

Next up is the Calen Hotel, owned by one of Airlie Beach’s favourite sons, Gavin ‘Butto’ Butlin. Butto has been organising the Airlie Beach Festival of music for the last eight years. Bend his ear about music and the music festival which happens in November!

After Butto kicks us out for playing soccer with the pool balls we’ll stop and have a drink at the best Hotel in Kuttabul, The Kuttabul Hotel. I don’t know why it’s called that. Maybe it’s something to do with cattle management? Why don’t you ask a local?!

Next up is The Leap Hotel which sits under an escarpment with a tragic history. Learn about an injustice and a massacre at the hands of early colonial police. We’ll have an hour here for you to explore the pub and the gem store.

The General Gordon Hotel is next in our wild and wacky tour. Set in the cane fields south-west of Mackay, The GG is a classic Queensland style pub.

Duration: Departs Airlie Beach @ 1000, returns ~ 1845

Price: $180pp, kids? I’m not sure this one is kid friendly. If they are under 18 though, just $90 for them.

Conditions: A minimum of six adults is required to fun. If fewer than six adults are travelling, then the six adult price will apply.

Cape Gloucester

Cape Gloucester is one of we locals favourite places to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big smoke, Airlie Beach! It does get busy up there on a weekend with live entertainment, so table bookings are essential. However, during the week it could be all yours! Cape Gloucester Resort has a swimming pool at your disposal if you don’t want to bother with the big warm bathtub and the food is of course resort quality! Monte’s Resort (literally around the corner) is limited to grazing platters* at the time of writing and I will update when I have more news. It is though an exceptional venue, and well worth a visit!

The Dingo Beach Hotel has live music on the weekends and really pumps with the local bar flies giving you a friendly welcome! The food is hearty with good sized portions! You will not go hungry at really well priced offerings. The beer is really cold too!
